Overview

This unit equips students as practitioner researchers, and supports skills development for those who wish to advance in their interest as researchers. Students will familiarise themselves with methodological literature, explore current literature related to their chosen area of inquiry and experience for developing an inquiry project. They will develop a research proposal to conduct a project on a topic of their interest, connecting it with an aspect of leadership in the context of early childhood education.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse and critically reflect on contemporary perspectives, theories and different research methodologies related to early childhood education;
  2. Critique and apply principles of ethical research;
  3. Review contemporary literature to build on deeper knowledge in the area of their research and identify the gap;
  4. Identify research question and appropriate methods for data collection and analysis; and
  5. Design and justify a research project and proposal.
